I’d been meaning to post these for ages, and this black and white photography challenge from Cee’s Photography to photograph “water” seemed like a good reason to finally follow through.
I brought my camera to Lincoln Center to take photos of the fountain outside the opera house.
I’d been planning on using my tripod and a long shutter speed to make the water look beautiful and silky. But apparently tripods aren’t allowed there (even though I’ve since seen people with tripods in the same area…), so I ended having to try it hand held.
The longest shutter speed I could manage without terrible camera shake was about half a second. Still, it came out rather beautifully.
And it gave me the idea to see how the fountain would look if I used a really short shutter speed and “froze” the water. It looks pretty cool, I think!
These are wonderful photos of this most famous fountain. Happy New Year.
